The History of
Evil Dead The Musical

Most would have looked at the Evil Dead films, and never thought they could be combined into a musical… but that didn’t stop a group of ambitious young Canadians from giving it a try.

August, 2003 – in the back room of a small bar in Toronto called the Tranzac Club, Evil Dead The Musical made its debut. And like the movies it was based on, Evil Dead The Musical quickly became a cult sensation. Within days of opening, people were lined up around the block to see this new show (not only because they heard how fantastic it was, but also because the production was too cheap to have a formal ticketing system).

July, 2004 – With all the attention the show was receiving, other cities became interested in Evil Dead as well. The show opened in Montreal as a featured attraction at the 22nd Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.

November, 2006 – Evil Dead The Musical made its Off-Broadway debut in New York City at the New World Stages, where it was praised by both fans and critics alike. The cast album from the show even debuted at #4 on the Billboard Show Charts.

2007-2008 –  Evil Dead The Musical returned to Toronto at the Diesel Playhouse, where it played for over 300 consecutive performances, becoming the longest running Canadian show in Toronto in over two decades.  It also won the Dora Audience Choice Award as Toronto’s Favourite Show.

2008 – Evil Dead The Musical opened in Korea where it has a very successful run, winning the Musical Award (the Korean equivalent of a Tony) for Best Small Musical Production. Since then, it has had four successful runs in Korea, featuring many K-Pop superstars.

2012 – Evil Dead El Musical opened in Madrid, Spain and became an instant hit.

2013 – Evil Dead The Musical opened in Las Vegas, where it has played for 5 consecutive years.

2013 – Evil Dead The Musical made it’s triumphant return to Toronto for an extended run, coming close to 500 performances in that city alone.

2014-2017 – Evil Dead The Musical launches it’s first of three successful North American tours.
